Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) was developed by Jon Kabat-Zinn, PhD. who is professor emeritus of medicine and the creator of the Stress Reduction Clinic and the Center for Mindfulness in Medicine at the University of Massachusetts Medical School.

Whether you're new to meditation or experienced, this course is an invitation to move toward greater balance, control, and participation in life. MBSR students learn practices to stay present and access calm—even in the midst of difficult life circumstances.

If you're struggling with stress, pain, illness, or complicated demands of modern life, this course will help you slow down and reconnect with what's truly important in this moment.

WHAT YOU'LL LEARN:

  • simple meditation practices that can fit into your life—no matter how busy

  • easy movement exercises to help you get out of your head and shift into awareness
  • body awareness methods so you can stay tuned into what your body needs

  • yoga and mindful movement guidance to develop a daily practice

Group discussion, camaraderie, and support as you lower your stress levels week after week.

Science-Based Mindfulness

MBSR has been extensively researched in many settings since it's introduction to Western medicine by Jon Kabat-Zinn, PhD in 1979. Three decades of published research and clinical studies indicate that the people who complete the course experience:

  • Decreased physical and psychological symptoms
  • Increased ability to relax
  • Reductions in pain levels and an enhanced ability to cope with chronic pain
  • Greater energy and enthusiasm for life
  • Improved self-esteem
  • Ability to cope more effectively with both short and long-term stressful situations

MEET YOUR INSTRUCTOR:

David Perls is an executive coach and mindfulness teacher who understands the unique demands of managing stress at work from the inside out. With more than 20 years of business experience, he's worked at ebay and Charles Schwab and has consulted with Fortune 100 companies, Internet start-ups and non-profits in industries including technology, software, financial services, healthcare, education, solar energy, consumer packaged goods, organic food, athletic apparel and entertainment, to name a few. He's passionate about yoga and has been working with Headstand, a non-profit that combats toxic stress for at-risk youth (K-12) through mindfulness, yoga and character education.

For You If:

You're searching for more balance and contentment in your life.

You're suffering from stress (job, family or financial).

You're battling chronic pain or illness.

You're struggling with anxiety, panic, sleep disturbances, GI distress, fatigue, high blood pressure, or headaches.

MBSR is appropriate for all ages and backgrounds. The practices are designed to support people who desire a better, more relaxed approach to life: parents, kids, caregivers, therapists, health professionals, executives, business owners, and students.
