We all have times in our lives when we are faced with a challenge or need support to think through our struggles. My special interest as a therapist in the past decade has included working with adults and adolescents who are experiencing depression, anxiety, relationship difficulties, grief, life transitions and trauma.
My Approaches to Therapy
My style of working is warm, thoughtful and direct. I am committed to helping people discover and enhance their emotional capacity in order to live more satisfying lives. I work collaboratively with my clients to establish ongoing, flexible goals to make our sessions most effective. I am particularly interested in the stories we tell about our lives and the meaning we make of them.
I like to incorporate ideas and techniques from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Mindfulness techniques and Narrative Therapy although I like to tailor my approaches to each client’s goals and values. My style in therapy tends to be solution focused while being present with authenticity, empathy and humor.
My Qualifications as a Therapist
I earned my Masters in Counseling Psychology with an emphasis in Marriage and Family Therapy at University of San Francisco. During my traineeship at USF, I worked at an outpatient clinic where I provided individual therapy as well as crisis support both in person and via phone to clients who were in abusive relationships which often caused a number of issues such as depression, anxiety, and PTSD.
After my traineeship at the clinic mentioned above, I served a younger population (adolescents) and their families at a non-profit organization. I worked as a crisis clinician both in the community and at a crisis stabilization unit. Many of the clients had history of trauma in addition to several mental health issues including anxiety, depression, suicidality, identity issues and family conflict. Additionally, I have worked for Behavioral Health Care Services at Alameda County providing case management and outpatient therapy for school age students and their families.
I have been licensed as a Marriage and Family Therapist since 2012 and currently work at Kaiser Permanente in Oakland/Richmond where I provide individual and group therapy as well as psychiatric evaluations in both the Adult Department of Psychiatry and the Emergency Department.
I look forward to working with you and supporting you overcome whatever challenges may be in the way from reaching your goals.
