Inevitably, there are times when you can feel stuck or overwhelmed when facing life’s challenges. There may be particular areas that you struggle with, and want to try something different. As a licensed clinical psychologist, I can help you work toward your personal objectives of growth and change. My areas of expertise include working with mood disturbances, anxiety, child and adolescent issues, behavior problems, life changes, relationship issues, and multicultural issues. Whatever problems you may be facing, I understand that beginning therapy can be intimidating and that it takes courage and dedication to make changes. I strive to meet you where you are and provide a warm, genuine, and empathic environment where you can feel safe to express yourself.
My Approaches to Therapy
I believe that therapy works best with a collaborative partnership to ultimately increase your resiliency to face life’s stressors independently. I typically utilize short term Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy to help you learn coping skills, modify patterns of thoughts, emotions, and behaviors, and navigate relationships. I also integrate Mindfulness-Based therapy and Family Therapy based on best practices. In my work with children and adolescents, I collaborate closely with families to help develop a strong foundation to nurture youth. I can also help with longer term, in-depth work, depending on your needs.
My Qualifications as a Psychologist
I began my training to become a psychologist in Australia in 2003, completing my Bachelor of Science in Psychology at the University of Western Australia and a Masters in Clinical Psychology at Curtin University of Technology. I worked as a clinician serving children and adults aged 2-95 in diverse settings including university clinics, outpatient hospital clinics, rehabilitation hospitals and in family homes. After I moved to the Bay Area, I earned my Doctorate of Psychology degree at the California School of Professional Psychology. My clinical training included working with patients in underserved community mental health centers, where I was particularly interested in working with complex issues and helping clients untangle and address the influences that impacted them. I completed my pre-doctoral internship at the Children’s Institute Inc. in Los Angeles and post-doctoral training at Kaiser Permanente in San Jose. My research interests have included the interaction of identify and performance in technology companies, social belonging and social support, ADHD, depression, and trauma therapy. I am fluent in Malayalam and provide therapy in both Malayalam and English.
In my spare time I enjoy spending time with family and friends, travelling, eating too much chocolate, singing, reading, dancing, being a couch potato, or a combination of those great things.
