September Meditation Course in San Francisco

Mindfulness meditation is a powerful technique for getting "unstuck" from the thoughts and habits that keep you feeling stressed and overwhelmed. SF Stress and Anxiety Center is sponsoring a Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) group, led by teachers Krista De Castella and David Perls, in Hayes Valley on Tuesday nights (7:00-9:30) from October 18th through December 3rd.. 

What is MBSR?

Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) is an eight-week program developed by Jon Kabat-Zinn, PhD, at the University of Massachusetts Medical Center. MBSR offers an invitation to move toward greater balance, control and participation in life. It introduces participants to practices for cultivating ease, resilience and uprightness in the midst of difficult life circumstances. This may involve relating to and working with stress, pain, illness and the many challenges and demands of day-to-day life.

Proven Results

Three decades of published research and clinical studies indicate that the majority of people who complete the course report:

  • Reductions in physical symptoms
  • Reductions in psychological distress
  • Increased relaxation
  • Reductions in pain levels
  • Increased pain tolerance
  • Increased energy and optimism
  • Improved self-esteem

Who Can Benefit?

Upcoming Mindfulness Retreats

1) DAYLONG MINDFULNESS RETREAT AT JIKOJI ZEN CENTER (May 7th)

The day-long will offer a flexible schedule and an introduction to all the guided meditation practices covered in the traditional 8-week course. The day will be mostly silent (with plenty of guidance) and is suitable for experienced practitioners and complete beginners. Space is limited and sign-up is on a first-come first-serve basis.

2) UNPLUG & RECHARGE RETREAT AT TASSAJARA ZEN CENTER (August 12th - 14th)

The Unplug and Recharge Retreat is a 3-day retreat focused on how to live mindfully in the digital age. You can click on the link below to register. We have limited space available so accomodation will go on a first come first serve basis. This retreat is more expensive than our usual retreats due to the location, accomodation and meal costs etc (not included in the retreat fees). But, if you're interested (and/or know people who might like to come, it's a good idea to sign up soon). Feel free to forward this information onto others - Tassajara is a magical place with natural hot springs, mountains, trails, and amazing vegetarian cooking. The retreat will be pretty gentle (we'll be doing some practice together and there will be plenty of time off to just enjoy the place) beginners welcome :)
