Brandon Weiss, Ph.D.
I am a clinical psychologist who specializes in helping clients manage and overcome anxiety and stress. I believe that therapy should be goal-oriented and evidence-based, resulting in improvements in quality of life and overall wellbeing.
I use evidence-based techniques (primarily cognitive-behavioral) to help clients identify problem areas, build motivation to change, and actually making these changes. I believe that therapy is collaborative and should be guided by the client’s values and preferences. As a therapist, I take an active approach and focus on using therapeutic techniques that have substantial research support. As such, I typically practice cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), assisting the client in identifying and changing maladaptive behaviors and thought patterns.
I completed my doctoral training in clinical psychology at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln (UNL). Throughout my graduate training, I conducted diagnostic assessments and provided individual cognitive-behavioral therapy at a specialty Anxiety Disorders Clinic. My research endeavors during graduate school focused on treatment for anxiety disorders, improving mental health services for underserved populations (particularly individuals who identify as lesbian, gay, bisexual, and/or transgender), and using technology to improve access to evidence-based mental healthcare.
I completed internship at the Boston Consortium in Clinical Psychology, where my major rotation was within the National Center for PTSD Behavioral Science Division. My clinical training on internship focused on evidence-based assessment and individual and group treatment of PTSD and related difficulties among veterans. Additionally, I completed a three-year postdoctoral fellow at the National Center for PTSD Dissemination and Training Division, part of the VA Palo Alto Health Care System and Stanford University School of Medicine. As a postdoctoral fellow, I provided evidence-based individual and group therapy via videoconferencing for rural veterans through VA Palo Alto’s Telemental Health Clinic. Presenting problems included PTSD, anxiety disorders, mood disorders, and personality disorders.
