Jennifer Madani, PsyD, anxiety psychologist

You are the worthiest investment there is. If you are having difficulty believing this, it may be time for a change. As human beings, we are faced with difficulties that arise out of simply being alive; loss, sadness, anxiety, and relationship conflict can greatly impact day-to-day life. Therapy can help you work through these difficulties and find new and better ways of confronting them.

As individuals, we come into this life and move through stages of being. As we learn and experience different aspects of the world we change and grow, and at times we are stunted by loss of relationships to people as well as things. We live in a world that is both unpredictable and ever changing. When this becomes overwhelming, it can manifest in us in a number of ways. Some people  become depressed and begin to isolate themselves, which leads to loneliness and lack of pleasure in life. Others can become over-stressed and develop panic attacks or have difficulty sleeping.

In working with individuals, I try to get a comprehensive understanding of a person's life and what brought them to their current level of difficulty. I take notice of their individual needs and comfort in addressing their difficulties. This is done in collaboration with clients, and an acknowledgment that we are all on a journey, and at times need support from another in finding the pathway of fulfillment and joy.

My Approaches to Therapy

My approach to therapy is strength-based and collaborative, with an emphasis on the relationship.  I draw from a number of therapeutic approaches that are tailored to address your individual needs.  My approach is trauma- informed, and I am trained in attachment-based therapy, Cognitive Behavioral therapy, cultural humility, and mindfulness- based interventions and techniques.  I specialize in the following:

  • Relationship issues
  • Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD)
  • Job Stress
  • Family Stress
  • Parent-Child Conflict
  • Parenting Adjustment
  • Parent-Infant Attachment
  • Self-esteem issues
  • Psychology of women

My Qualifications as a Psychologist

I have been a Licensed Clinical Psychologist since 2010 and have been in training since 2004.  I began my training with a focus on adults with sexual trauma and have continued my training and focus on improving the lives of women, families and children through the work I do.

I earned my doctorate degree at California School of Professional Psychology (CSPP) in San Francisco and Bachelor of Arts Degree at Malone University in Canton, OH.

I currently direct the child abuse prevention program at A Better Way, Inc. in Alameda County in close conjunction with the Department of Children and Family Services.  I have extensive training on bolstering strengths in adults in order to support healthy parenting and reduce the risk of child abuse in families.  In this role, I also provide consultation and supervision to clinicians and family support persons.

I completed my post-doctoral fellowship and Internship at Portia Bell Hume Center in Concord, CA and Fremont, CA where I provided services to both adults and children.  In this role, I saw clients struggling with panic attacks, bipolar disorder, major depression and attachment issues.  I utilized evidence-based techniques in addressing these presenting issues.  After completing my training, I was hired as a psychologist and supervisor where I continued to provide therapy services as well as train new psychologists.  I have provided hours of supervision and consultation to trainees treating a wide range of presenting issues.

I am also certified in Child-Parent Psychotherapy, received a Level 1 certification in FAN (Facilitating Attuned iNteractions) and am currently completing a certification in the Neurosequential Model of Therapeutics.  Additionally, I have provided diagnostic and psychological assessments to both adults and adolescents throughout my career.

When I’m not working, I enjoy spending time with friends and family, movies, politics and social issues that affect future generations.

Thank you for taking the time to read about my work.
